Lunch today

Today, my client took me to lunch to bid me farewell and thank me for the work and progress that we made together on this project.

It was really nice and a very rare event indeed.

Thank you to everyone who came!

New Horizons

For those of you who know me, I have decided to strike out on my own again (after more than 2 years).

The lure of contracting and the strength of the economy is generating more work than there are qualified candidates.   Hence, I can keep busy enough not to have to eat boxed macaroni and cheese seven days per week.

I have passed over several excellent opportunities in the last six months but I cannot pass this one up.  I will be able to be close to my family and friends and not have to travel as extensively.

Well, at least until this contract is up!

I am excited , yet sad that I am leaving a very good company.  For all those folks that I have worked with on exciting and dangerous missions, I wish the best!

Cheers.

Jeez, I forgot.. I passed my webMethods 6.0 Cert Exam

I actually passed the webMethods 6.0 Certified Developer Exam at my first setting. I was a bit frustrated with my Internet connection with T-Mobile hotspot (Starbucks), but after the third attempt, I was able to maintain my connection. Maybe I'll get viagra for my wireless card so it can keep the connection up :-).

Several of my colleagues have been pressing me to take the exam with comments like, come 'on dude, my Grandma could pass it and she can't even spell webMethods... etc.

So I sat down and missed the ones I thought I would miss and aced the stuff that makes me drool...

I don't feel any different and the quality of my work hasn't changed (i.e., hasn't dropped due to my expanded head.)

I encourage everyone to try to take the test, because there's a lot of stuff on there that makes you think a lot about some of the features that we all take for granted.

Time flies when you are having fun.

Cheers.

Ray

Such a slacker I am..

Well, it's been a few weeks since I posted, so I thought that I would login and explain myself.

Since last time, I have moved my household from Atlanta to Orlando. I moved myself, no movers...

I have continued to travel to my Govt. consulting job in Washington DC, so time has been kind of tight.

The plane delays due to weather have added an additional bit of suspense to my otherwise normally exciting job.

My contract here is winding down and there is little hope for another extension.

I am going to drive my car back to Florida from Washington DC this weekend. My wife has joined me here for the week and together, we will traverse the blueridge parkway on the return trip to Florida.

On the way back, I will stop in Atlanta to pickup my son for a few weeks.

Next week, I return back to the client and then it's the end of the road. I will return to Orlando and take 10 days of much needed vacation.

After the vacation, then the fun will start. Not really sure where I am going after this. It's always exciting...

Stay tuned.
