The Politics of Architecture
In the course of architecting a solution to a business problem, it is inevitable that business and technology will cross paths.
I've found that in large government organizations, often the left hand, right hand and the brain are not connected.
This makes integration work very difficult. Especially when you are trying to nail down standards for authentication, security strategy and firewall mapping.
Just trying to find the "ONE" person in charge of a particular set of standards or processes can be a daunting task.
It would be easy to work strictly at the CIO level, but this doesn't solve tactical problems.
Oh, I forgot. In between, everyone has an opinion.
So, how can one proceed and still maintain sanity?
I don't know the answer yet, but stay tuned.

Ray, I know that I am replying to an old post, but I can tell you that in some of the large corporations, the left, right hand and the brain do not work together, and the spine ends up doing all the work. Which is why we see many integration failures.
